AR was really catching on before break. I hope the enthusiasm continues upon our return.

Week 28

In math we will be spending the week on geometry. Most activities will be dealing with polygons. We will continue to work on math facts and getting addition to ten to reach automaticity.

I gave away LOTS of shirts last week and I think at least one more will earn one this week. I am really pleased with the increase in fluency I am seeing because of this. Reading makes readers. It is so exciting to see this happen.

Everyone is doing well in spelling. A few are a bit behind but only a lesson or two. Some are many lists ahead.

Remember our program this week. It is on Thursday, March 18 at 1:30 in the cafeteria. If for some reason you can't make that, we will be practicing Tuesday at 1:30 and Wednesday at 9:00.

Because of the program on Thursday, we will not be doing pajama and whacky hair day. We will do the activities planned for Wednesday and Friday.

Spring break is next week. There is early release this Friday. I hope the weather is nice for us. Have a great break!!

Monster Sandwich Day

We had Monster Sandwiches on Friday. I think everyone enjoyed the food and the good times. The kids ate more than they ever do at lunch. They only get 1/2 sandwich at a time but many of them had 2 or 3 or 4. Then we had dessert of brownies, ice cream, and chocolate syrup. YUMMY!!!

AR Stars

These kids got their rewards on Friday.

AR Stars

These three girls got their shirts on Thursday, March 11.

Week 27

Hoping for a regular week of school. It seems like forever since we have had one. Late starts, snow days, and early releases have made for some interesting times in the classroom.

This week we will be reading "Busy Buzzy Bee." It is a non fiction story that will give us lots of information about bees. The phonics focus is long o made by o-e. The new vocabulary words are:
another
change
field
touch

wait
wild

In math, we will continue working on math facts. We are building speed by doing timed tests. Time and money are daily reviews. We should get to geometry by the end of the week.

Friday will be Monster Sandwich Day. Your child will not need a lunch that day.

Our First Grade Music Program will be Thursday, March 18 at 1:30 in the cafeteria. I hope to see all of you there.

Congratulations to Corbyn and Gavin. Both boys earned a watch for passing 100 AR tests. They seem to be reading all of the time. What a difference it has made in their fluency. It is always so exciting to watch the light bulb go off. Watching children become fluent readers is the highlight of my job!!!

Have a great week.
